Social Solutions International is seeking an experienced individual to serve as Grants Specialist to the USAID Child Blindness Program (CBP) in the Washington, DC area (https://www.usaid.gov/childblindness). CBP is a global program providing grant funding to prevent and treat visual impairment and blindness, and has saved and restored the sight of millions of children by providing surgeries, medications, eye health screenings, and eyeglasses to the poorest communities of the world.  

 

CBP currently manages a portfolio of close to 50 grant awards for a total of approximately $5.6 million.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the grants close-out process.
  • Ensure selected projects meet their obligations to deliver eye care services according to USAID regulations.
  • Report results across the program to USAID and other stakeholders.
  • Serve as the liaison between USAID and the grantee to ensure contractual obligations for the project are met.
  • Maintain all templates and documents procedures for the entire grants management cycle.
  • Maintain financial and technical monitoring of projects.
  • Lead in ensuring that individual project budgets and work plans adhere to stated targets.
  • Partner with Program Manager so that both management and technical skills are adequately addressed and divided.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in management, business administration, public policy or administration, or international development.
  • 5+ years of professional experience providing grants or contracts support to international development projects, preferably USAID-funded projects.
  • Strong proficiency with government rules and regulations.
  • Experience with Fixed Obligation Grants (aka Fixed Amount Awards).
  • Excellent leadership skills, outstanding professional reputation, successful grant-making track-record, and proven cultural sensitivity to fulfill the diverse grants administration requirements in the scope of work.
  • Management skills necessary to ensure the effective, efficient, and timely execution of all administrative steps needed to complete the full grants award cycle.
  • Good interpersonal/diplomatic skills and cultural/political sensitivity.
  • Strong English writing and communication skills, including communication with small local NGOs in countries around the world.
  • Previous exposure to USAID rules and regulations.
  • 2+ years of professional experience working in programs in low or middle income countries.
  • Professional experience interacting with U.S. Government agencies, host country governments, small NGOs, and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience working in partnership with international donors and agencies such as World Bank, DFID, EU, UNDP, etc.
  • Skills and abilities that are complementary to those of the Program Manager so that both management and technical skills are adequately addressed and divided
