The Research Assistant (RA) plays an integral part to the Social Solutions team.  The RA performs a variety of research, support, clerical and computer-related tasks that involve daily deadlines.  The RA will be cross-trained with other staff to provide coverage when necessary.


Position is highly independent and requires constant email availability and phone contact throughout the day. It requires ability to travel locally to meetings. Work will be done remotely and in the Rockville, MD office. Position is full time and may require additional hours including weekend hours when deadlines loom.


  • Process information and data: Analyze and generate information, literature, and/or data related to project tasks
  • Writing: Write simple documents, such as drafting literature reviews and reports
  • Develop content expertise: Gather information about a particular content area, be able to express key findings orally and in writing
  • Problem solving: Recommend solutions to problems, seek advice and guidance on which solutions to apply
  • Project task management: Manage several tasks associated with a small project, on time and with a commitment to quality
  • Administrative and contracts management: Complete simple administrative and contracts management issues related to projects
  • Business development: Contribute to proposal writing and research new business development opportunities, by supporting the proposal manager and writing specific sections, and templating and formatting proposals

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent and 2 years’ experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated appropriate interpersonal, communication and organizational skills, which have resulted in effective team membership
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously in a dynamic environment
  • Demonstrated ability to work with internal and/or external clients and provide required services
  • Proven skills in the effective use of information technology, including (word-processing, spreadsheet, database, PowerPoint, etc.). Use only applicable IT applications.
  • Ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines
  • Ability to maintain a positive and respectful attitude
  • Ability to problem-solve, including being able to identify problems and make recommendations for resolving
  • Ability to manage and prioritize the tasks associated with a project or projects
