Overview of the Position

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has contracted Social Solutions to recruit and hire qualified individuals for the following position:

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

 

The U.S. Global Malaria Coordinator (hereto referred to as the Coordinator) is seeking a Program Assistant to provide full-time assistance to him as he leads the US President’s Malaria Initiative (PMI). The Program Assistant will provide support to the Coordinator and Deputy Coordinator, performing a variety of both complex and routine executive administrative duties ranging from scheduling briefings and meetings, arranging travel, escorting guests, and maintaining program files and spreadsheets.

 

BACKGROUND

 

The U.S. President’s Malaria Initiative is the largest effort in history to control malaria in Africa and the Greater Mekong region in Asia. PMI is the U.S. Government’s flagship global malaria initiative led by USAID and implemented together with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.  The Initiative is results-based, focused, and exhibits a high level of financial and programmatic accountability. Leadership, management, and oversight of PMI are carried out under the leadership of the U.S. Global Malaria Coordinator, who has oversight over all resources and international activities of the U.S. Government related to efforts to combat malaria. The Coordinator is appointed by the President and reports to the USAID Administrator, and leads an Interagency Advisory Group made up of representatives from USAID, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Department of Defense, State Department, National Security Council, Peace Corps, and Office of Management and Budget.

Responsibilities

GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The Program Assistant to the U.S. Global Malaria Coordinator will provide overall routine and ad hoc administrative support to him and his deputy, including but not limited to:

 

  • Maintains calendars and schedules appointments for Coordinator and Deputy Coordinator.  May establish appointment priorities or reschedule appointments or invitations.
  • Assists with processing travel requests for Coordinator and Deputy’s travel, which includes submitting a detailed trip report upon return from travel.
  • Reviews travel vouchers to ensure that Coordinator and Deputy are reimbursed for incurred travel expenses.
  • Writes/edits information for letters, issue briefs, country profiles, and responses to public inquiries.
  • Collects/organizes briefing materials.
  • Coordinates special projects on behalf of the Coordinator and Deputy.
  • Escorts external guests to and from meetings with the Coordinator and Deputy.
  • Documents and follows up with PMI leadership on decisions and direction actions; tracks implementation and completion of follow-up actions.
  • Assists in the preparation of correspondences, ensuring that all documentation is complete and in compliance with USAID rules, regulations, and standards.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE 

  • Minimum of BA/BS and 1 year of professional experience
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office and Google suite
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills 
  • Experience and knowledge of global health/malaria preferred
  • US Citizenship or US Permanent Residency required
