Overview of the Position

Social Solutions International Inc. is seeking a Regional Fund Manager (RFM) for Fiji and Polynesia to lead the Pacific American Fund’s operations and engagement in Fiji, Samoa, Tonga, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu. This position is based in Suva, Fiji and reports to the Pacific American Fund’s Grants Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Engaging grantees and managing Pacific American Fund grants in the subregion;
  • Possessing and applying expertise in grant-making and grants management, including, in coordination with the Fund’s team and other relevant stakeholders, assessing and evaluating grant proposals, conducting management and financial risk assessments prior to grants being awarded, and coordinating with grantees and applying expertise in grant project management, operations, and administration;
  • Monitoring the ongoing implementation of grantee activities funded by the Fund, including monitoring and examining financial reports, progress reports;
  • Providing outreach to and sharing information with CSOs and a wide range of other stakeholders to raise awareness about, promote, and to support outreach on behalf of the Pacific American Fund;
  • Coordinating with USAID and U.S. Embassy staff in Fiji, Samoa, Tonga, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu on an as needed basis;
  • Traveling to countries within the region and coordinating stakeholder participation from USAID Missions and US Embassies and other relevant stakeholders including those from civil society and the private sector; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field; a master’s degree would be an added strength;
  • At least 5 years of proven experience in supporting a similar grantmaking program;
  • Experience with an international donor-funded program would be an added strength;
  • Demonstrated leadership and management skills in development or grants projects and the ability to implement and communicate the vision of the Pacific American Fund on behalf of USAID in close coordination with the Fund team;
  • Experience working with CSOs in the Pacific region would be an added strength;
  • Demonstrated experience in the grant-making process, conducting thorough organizational and financial risk assessments, effective grants management, and grantee capacity building; an understanding of USAID grant-making rules and regulations would be a key strength;
  • Professional attitude with the ability to be a self-starter, take initiative, and get things done in a complex development context and multi-country work environment;
  • Demonstrated experience tracking and/or assessing grant budgets, finance, and accounting would be a key strength;
  • Ability to engage with Pacific American Fund grantees and to coordinate outreach about grantee activities and successes to USAID and other stakeholders;
  • Strong interpersonal/diplomatic skills and cultural/political sensitivity; and
  • Strong English writing and communication skills are required; 
  • Knowledge of local organizations.
