Social Solutions is seeking a Communications and Partnerships Officer for the USAID/Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance (BHA)-funded Climate Smart and Disaster Ready (CSDR) cooperative agreement. This four-year program will focus on establishing the Melanesian Youth Climate Corps (MYCC) with a focus on empowering youth in the Pacific Island Countries of Fiji, Vanuatu, Papua New Guinea, and the Solomon Islands to be leaders within their communities.

 

The Communications and Partnerships Officer will design, implement, and evaluate strategic communications to increase awareness of the MYCC program, as well as lead the identification and relationship-building of partnerships with private, public, and government sector stakeholders across the region. The Communications and Partnerships Officer will report to the Program Director and be a full-time position based in Suva, Fiji.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy aligned with MYCC program objectives, locally led development principles, and USAID guidelines.
  • Identify organizations and individuals to participate in the MYCC program as Advisory Group members, training partners, and community advocates.
  • Create engaging content, including website content, email newsletters, articles, blog posts, social media posts, and multimedia materials, to raise awareness about MYCC and its impact on target audiences.
  • Collaborate with program staff to identify and capture compelling stories, testimonials, and case studies highlighting the experiences and achievements of MYCC fellows and alumni. This will include whole-of-project-life stories following individual fellows through the entire cycle.
  • Mentor fellows and placement partners on communications skills and enable them to tell their own stories.
  • Lead awareness-increasing communications initiatives, including organization of learning events such as field-based practicums, networking events, and learning exchanges both virtual and in-person.
  • Collaborate with program participants and stakeholders to understand their needs and implement program learning, accountability, and feedback mechanisms to support performance and social inclusion.
  • Lead and support efforts to identify, engage, and cultivate partnerships with government agencies, NGOs, private sector entities, and other stakeholders to support MYCC's objectives and sustainability for the purposes of learning events, Talanoa sessions, pause-and-reflect sessions, and after-action reviews.
  • Collaborate closely with the Program Director on key program initiatives, deliverables, and other priorities as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in international development, communications, marketing, public relations, or another relevant field.
  • At least four (4) years of experience in developing and implementing communications and/or partnership strategies.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling skills, with the ability to distill complex concepts into clear and compelling messages for diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated experience building relationships with diverse stakeholders, as well as established relationships with a broad range of public, private, government, and civil society organizations, with a preference for established networks in youth empowerment and/or climate change sectors.
  • Demonstrated strong initiative skills and ability to complete tasks both independently and collaboratively as a team member.
  • Strong facilitation, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with multicultural audiences.
  • Experience working within the Pacific Islands.
  • Advanced professional proficiency in written and spoken English.
